Youths are the agents of change that the World needs as we all know. And they are the leaders of tomorrow. If then today is the time they must think smart and act as the leaders of tomorrow. Who then would encourage and challenge them to do so? The leaders of today’s responsibility have to be none other than this. Why it’s important to consider? Because as John Maxwell said, “everything rises and falls on leadership”, the rise of tomorrow’s everything is in the hands of us raising the leaders of tomorrow. In fact, many of our young leaders have vision and do what they can in order to raise leaders. Among them is the national Baptist Youth Coordinator name Hanson Gaiyer. He works with Baptist Union P.N.G under the ministry department. He was employed by the organisation to coordinate all the youth programs in Baptist community throughout the country. However, from time to time, he also travels beyond the Baptist circle whenever they invite him to represent Baptist Youths.
He has been involving in community development activities and promoting leadership development programs as well as coordinating youth ministries. As one of the attached photos shows, he has been to many of the remotest village in the country, doing church visitation and conducting youth leadership awareness. One in Kerave in Erave in Southern Highlands Province. The other visitations he has made were in Baiyer River in Western Highland Province. And as he said he is still looking forward to move to other provinces doing the same. His visitation and speeches enlighten the youths’ perspective about leadership and life. One of his speeches goes: “No youths has to feel left behind and think they wouldn’t make it through in life and leadership. For God the Creator has a purpose in their lives.”
And one of the event which he got involved in bringing peace was organising City Youths March. Just recently his colleagues, City Youth leaders, have organised the City Youth March in Mt.Hagen to stop the violence in the city. Youths of all denominations were united as one and marched around the city with the prayer warriors. As a result, there is no more violence in the city. And also the atmosphere has been changed where people feel the freedom to move around as there is no more fear unlike before. In other words, Mt Hagen was in chaos but after the march people see the change.
Fortunately, his contribution in leadership and volunteer work on peace building was recognised by Team IFES (International Foundation for electoral Systems). He was one of the 40 plus youth leaders in the country who were selected to get the training (took four days) to become the Peace Ambassador in the country.
And not only has he involved in leadership and spiritual development activities but also takes initiatives in community development activities through the partnership of church. With his Pastor (Ps Dickson Yae), they have established a new church named Kombakana Baptist Church in Mt Hagen. He then has a planned to build National Youth Centre there. And due to the vision, the first thing he has envisioned to do is to develop the community first. And the first project they have been working on was Clean Water Project. Few weeks ago they have launched the project as the photos below show. He said, they’ll carry out many such projects whenever possible or when needed resources are made available.
